The American Kennel Club has announced its list of the most popular dog breeds in the U.S. for the year 2021. Topping the list for an incredible 30th year in a row…the Labrador Retriever! Will any other breed of dog ever knock the lovable Lab from the number one spot? Here’s a look at the rest of the top contenders… After the Lab, the most popular purebred dogs are: German Shepherds Golden Retrievers Bulldogs Beagles French Bulldogs Poodles Rottweilers Yorkshire Terriers Boxers The AKC notes that their rankings do not represent numbers for the ever-popular mixed breed “mutt” or hybrids like labradoodles and maltipoos. Rottweilers are enjoying their highest ranking in many years, after a drop from #2 in 1997. French Bulldogs are surging in popularity. Just 15 years ago, Frenchies were ranked at #36. Other breeds rising through the ranks include Siberian Huskies, Australian Shepherds, Great Danes, and the Belgian Malinois.
